Nachdem mein Flug nach Riga am geplanten Abflugtag aufgrund technischer Probleme am Flugzeug gecancelt wurde, als ich bereits am Gate zum boarding bereit stand, hatte ich die Reise gedanklich schon abgehakt. Aber dank sehr hilfsbereiten Lufthansa Mitarbeitern am Münchner Flughafen wurden Flug und Hotel um einen Tag nach hinten umgebucht und am nächsten Tag könnte ich die Reise nach Lettland wie geplant antreten und bin nun froh, endlich angekommen zu sein. 

Mein Hotel liegt super zentral und die Altstadt ist tatsächlich wunderschön – nur das Wetter ist es nicht. Bei einer Mischung aus Regen, Wind und gerade mal zweistelligen Temperaturen ist da durchaus noch Luft nach oben. 

Dafür war der gestrige Tag sonnig und bei blauem Himmel verbrachte ich fast den gesamten Tag am Meer, im Vorort Jurmala. 

Die Stadt selbst würde ich als eine Mischung aus Warschau und Odessa definieren. Aber mit einer ganz eigenen Sprache, Häusern wie aus den Geschichten Astrid Lindgrens und generell ist der skandinavische Einfluss auf die Stadt  größer als der russische. Eben doch ganz anders als zunächst erwartet.

After my flight to Riga was cancelled due to technical issues with the airplane when I was already ready for boarding, I had thought of the journey mentally already. But thanks to very helpful Lufthansa employees at Munich airport, the flight and hotel were changed by one day to the next and I could travel to Latvia as planned. Now I’m glad having arrived Riga finally.

My hotel has a central location and the cozy old town is actually beautiful – unfortunately the weather isn‘t. With a mixture of rain, wind and just double-digit temperatures, the weather isn’t fantastic…

Fortunately yesterday I could spend a sunny day with blue sky at the sea, in the suburb called Jurmala.

I’d define the city as a mixture of Warsaw and Odessa. But with a very own language, houses as from the stories of Astrid Lindgren and the Scandinavian influence on the city is bigger than the Russian. Not as I expected…
