About Souflaki and other goodies
It´s well known that food has a high priority for Southern Europeans.
Particularly evident is that in Greece. I have never seen so many different bakeries, patisseries, restaurants and street food stalls than in Athens.
At almost every corner seductively fragrant temptations lead visitors to the cafes and bakeries. Most of them have their own open bakery where you can watch the bakers in preparing the dishes. Then, when the freshly baked goods are offered for sale, I couldn´t stop myself buying and tasting them.
Puff pastry pie with spinach and feta cheese, baguettes with dried tomatoes, sandwiches of all kinds.
Who faces the more sweet, will also not be disappointed in Athens. Sweet tarts, homemade chocolates or filled Danishes will make you want more of them. However, the prices of these are absolutely affordable in Athens, slightly higher in many cafes in Glyfada and Voula.
Another thing that fascinated me, was the quality of food in many restaurants in the center of Athens.
Who could think that the quality there would be bad -especially in tourist hotspots- can convince himself of the whole opposite.
In my opinion, the restaurants try to make fresh and delicious food to stand out of all the competition there.
As a very authentic and delicious Greek taverna I can recommend the restaurant „Alexander the Great“ to everyone who visits Athens. It´s located quiet close to Omonia Square.
You definitely have to try the fried feta – just a dream!
At the end of the report, you can see photos of this restaurant.
