Market – this word makes my heart beat faster.
Dealers who sell their fresh products, compete loudly for the favor of the buyer; in the air, the smell of fruits, vegetables, fish.
Not always is the composition of the smell the markets highlight, but definitely its whole atmosphere that prevails among the visitors, dealers and the view of the offered goods.
Unfortunately, in many markets, the typical atmosphere was a little bit lost when the goods are precisely laid behind clean and disinfected glass.
The complete opposite of this is the market in the city of Athens!
So I was absolutely positively surprised when I entered the market halls in the city of Athens:
Fresh fruits and vegetables, spices of all kinds, countless varieties of nuts, a special hall for fish, an other huge for meat and of course lots of olives and feta cheese – simply wonderful!
A must for every visit in Athens!
But beware: Closed toe shoes are highly recommended – especially for the, however, not 100% hygienic floors of meat and fish halls… 😉
